Remembrance Day

Remembering and Praying: Remembrance Day and the Month of November

On November 11th, Canada pauses to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have defended our country in times of war and conflict. Remembrance Day is a solemn occasion, marked by reflection, gratitude, and prayer for all who have laid down their lives for peace and freedom.

As Catholics, this day calls us not only to remember but also to pray. We can offer the Mass, personal prayers, and acts of charity for the souls of the deceased, especially for those who have died in service to others. We may also participate in local ceremonies, observe moments of silence, and teach our children about the value of sacrifice, service, and peace.

The entire month of November in the Catholic Church is dedicated to prayer for the holy souls in Purgatory. It is a time to remember our departed loved ones and all the faithful departed. During this month, we are encouraged to:

  • Pray for the dead through personal prayers, the Rosary, or visiting cemeteries.
  • Offer Mass intentions for the souls of family members, friends, and even those we do not know personally.
  • Practice acts of charity and mercy, offering our good works for the benefit of the souls in Purgatory.

In November, remembrance and prayer connect us to both history and eternity. By honoring those who have served and praying for the deceased, we acknowledge the value of life, the reality of death, and the hope of resurrection. Let us unite as a parish in prayer, gratitude, and reflection during this sacred month.
