Mother’s Day Reflection
On Mother’s Day, the Church pauses with gratitude to give thanks for all mothers—those who gave us life, those who nurtured us in faith, those who stood beside us in both joyful and difficult seasons of life.
To be a mother has never been easy, but many would say that in today’s world it carries particular challenges. Mothers are asked to balance so many responsibilities at once: family life, work, emotional care, and the constant effort to be present in a world that often moves too quickly. Many carry quiet burdens that are rarely seen or acknowledged. And yet, again and again, mothers continue to give—patiently, generously, and faithfully.
For this gift, we give thanks to God.
We also recognize that no mother walks alone. The Church has always looked to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, as a source of strength and hope. In her we see a mother who trusted God in uncertainty, who stood firm in love through suffering, and who remained faithful even in moments of great sorrow. We ask her intercession for all mothers today—that she may accompany them with tenderness, courage, and peace.
We pray especially for mothers who are struggling: those who feel overwhelmed, those who are waiting for hope, those who are separated from their children, and those who carry wounds known only to God. May they find support in their families, their communities, and in the loving presence of God who never abandons them.
On this day, we also remember with love and gratitude those mothers who have died. Their love continues to shape lives, their sacrifices remain written in the hearts of their children, and their memory is held in the mercy of God. We pray that they may rest in eternal peace and that their families may be comforted with the hope of resurrection.
May this Mother’s Day be a moment of gratitude, healing, and prayer. Let us give thanks for every mother—living and deceased—and entrust them all to the loving care of our Heavenly Father and the maternal protection of Mary, our Mother.
